What you should know

Gastrointestinal Switzerland

You will receive a short-term sleeping pill (Propofol) during the endoscopies (stomach and colonoscopy). This means that you do not feel the examination and you are awake again immediately after the examination. This is NOT anesthesia. During the examination and the recovery period, you will be monitored and given oxygen through your nose. For legal reasons and for your own safety, we would like to point out that the limited perception or ability to react requires that you refrain from driving a vehicle in traffic for at least 12 hours after the treatment and that you do not drive a machine or sign anything during this time can afford.

Before the examination, please consider whether you would like to have someone with you to take you home after the examination. Expect a waiting time of 1½ hours during your examination. Parking spaces are available in the surrounding parking garages (Dragon and Anfos).

If you wish, we will be happy to call a taxi for you. Of course, you can also stay awake during the endoscopies.

Sleeping pills/Propofol

The cleansed gastrointestinal tract collapses. Therefore, insufflation of air is necessary for endoscopy (gastric and colonoscopy) in order to be able to assess the mucous membrane. The standard in Switzerland is CO2 insufflation, which is also what we use. It is absorbed very quickly by the body and thus prevents abdominal pain after the examination, and the amount of sleeping pills can often be reduced.
