Services of the medical practice MagenDarm Switzerland

In our practice we offer you various specialist medical examinations and therapies for gastrointestinal complaints including liver diseases and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).

What you should know

Gastrointestinal Switzerland

During the endoscopy (stomach and colonoscopy) you will receive a short sleep aid (propofol). This means that you do not feel the examination and you are awake again immediately after the examination. This is NOT an anesthetic. You will be monitored and given oxygen through your nose during the examination and recovery time. For legal reasons and for your own safety, we would like to point out that the limited perception or ability to react requires that you do not drive a vehicle in traffic for at least 12 hours after the treatment and that you do not drive a machine or sign during this time allowed to afford.

Before the examination, please consider taking someone with you to take you home after the examination. Expect a waiting time of 1½ hours during your examination. Parking spaces are available in the surrounding car parks (Drachen and Anfos).

If you wish, we will be happy to call a taxi for you. Of course, you can also stay awake during the endoscopies.

sleeping pills/ propofol

The cleaned gastrointestinal tract collapses. Therefore, the insufflation of air is necessary for the endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) in order to be able to assess the mucous membrane. Standard in Switzerland is the insufflation of CO2, this is also used by us. It is absorbed very quickly by the body and thus prevents abdominal pain after the examination, and the amount of sleeping pills can often be reduced.
